JULY 17: Additional Information - GCC Educational Event - Braiding
Hello Green Country!
I want to issue a big thank you to all the GCC board members, Patty Couch and Wendy Curlis for making the July 17th braiding clinic a very fun and informative event! I had a great time and learned a lot! "Hands on" learning is often so much more effective than lecturing, especially when the subject is a "hands on" activity like braiding. Having six patient horses to practice on was just great. My sincere appreciation to all involved for a wonderful learning experience!
Sincerely,
Liz Logan

Grow your own Warmblood !!
Hi Perry~
Most of the time you will see the mane braided on the right side of the neck. If the mane if free, good luck trying to tell it wich side it should fall! I tried 'forcing' a mane to fall on the right by braiding it over there and leaving it for 2 weeks. Took the braids out, it looked fabulous, lying there so nice an flat, me feeling very smug about the fact that I was oh-so-smart ~~ until my mare shook her head and neck and the entire mane flipped to the left side and lay there, looking perfect and flat. Which is where she wore it for the rest of her life! I'm an "L" Graduate judge and in all my training there I've never heard any strong opinions as to which side of the neck the braids are placed, just more often you'll see them on the right.

Wear your Helmets and Be Safe out there!
A helmet is a form of protective gear worn on the head to protect it from injuries, a variation of the hat. The oldest known use of helmets was by Assyrian soldiers in 900BC, who wore thick leather or bronze helmets to protect the head from sword blows and arrows. In the 2000s, soldiers still wear helmets, now often made from Kevlar rather than metal, to protect the head from bullets and shell fragments.[cissp practice test]

In memory Of Thor
For those of you who did not know Windhorse Thor, I would like to take a few minutes to tell you a little bit about him. He was half Arabian half Fresian, so he was truly unique in appearence as well as demeanor. He was playful, elegant, and most of all a dream for all to watch. He and Debbie had a bond that can never be replaced. He was her dream horse... Thor competed in Sport Horse in hand, Sport Horse Under Saddle, Show Hack, and Dressage. This year Debbie did outstanding with him in the show arena. She participated in the Fresian Nationals, and she planned on competing him in the US Arabian/Half-Arabian Sport Horse Nationals. She and I planned to attend together.
Thor was also a miracle boy, as a little over a year ago, he suffered a HORRIBLE accident, he reared up in the pasture and a T-Post went through his side and out the top of his withers- Debbie managed to remove him from his predicament, and hauled him to OSU where he underwent several surgeries, and through Debbie's determination and strong desire to save her boy, Thor made it and made a full recovery, and entered the show ring with all the grace and dignity he displayed before. He truly was an AMAZING horse and will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. Rest in Peace Thor.... We will miss you.... -
Guess What?
Congratulations!!!!! Cant wait to see him.
